Cookie Policy
Last updated: May 2026
This Cookie Policy applies to memoriesbymoira.com and explains how we use cookies and similar technologies. It sits alongside our Privacy Policy — please read both.
1. What cookies are
Cookies are small text files placed on your device when you visit a website. Similar technologies — such as local storage and session storage — work in a comparable way by storing small pieces of data in your browser. This policy covers all of them. Cookies help websites remember your preferences, keep sessions running, and gather anonymised usage data.
2. Why we use cookies
We use cookies to keep Memories by Moira running correctly, to remember your preferences (such as your consent choice), and — where you have agreed — to understand how visitors use our games so we can improve them. We do not use cookies to build advertising profiles about you or to sell data to third parties.
3. Categories of cookies we use
| Category | Purpose | Examples | Duration |
|---|---|---|---|
| Strictly necessary | Keep the site running: session handling, security, age-gate confirmation, and storing your cookie-consent choice. | __age_ok, __cc_v1 | Session to 12 months |
| Performance / analytics | Anonymous traffic measurement to understand which pages and games are most visited. Processed by Cloudflare Web Analytics. | __cf_bm | Up to 30 days |
| Functional | Remembers UI preferences such as volume settings on game widgets and animation preferences. | localStorage keys (e.g. mbm_prefs) | Up to 12 months |
| Advertising / targeting | When you arrive via a paid campaign (such as a Google Ads or Microsoft Advertising link), third-party cookies from those platforms may be set to measure ad performance. These are only activated with your consent. | Google Ads (cookie policy), Microsoft Advertising (privacy statement) | Up to 13 months |
4. Lawful basis (UK GDPR + PECR)
Under UK GDPR and the Privacy and Electronic Communications Regulations (PECR), strictly necessary cookies are set on the basis of our legitimate interest in operating a secure and functional website — no consent is required for these. All other cookie categories (performance, functional, and advertising) are set only with your explicit opt-in consent. You may withdraw consent at any time by clearing the relevant cookies or using your browser controls (see section 6 below). Withdrawing consent does not affect the lawfulness of any processing carried out before withdrawal.
5. How to manage your cookies on Memories by Moira
When you first visit the Parlour, a banner gives you two choices: "Accept all" (enables performance, functional, and advertising cookies) or "Essential only" (strictly necessary cookies only). Your choice is stored in localStorage under the key __cc_v1. To change your preference later, clear that key using your browser's developer tools, or clear all site data in your browser settings — the banner will reappear on your next visit.
6. How to manage cookies in your browser
Every modern browser lets you view, block, or delete cookies independently of any site's consent banner. Below are the official help pages for the most common browsers:
7. Third-party cookies and services
The following third parties may set cookies on our site when you have given consent:
- Cloudflare — provides hosting, security (DDoS protection, bot management), and web analytics. Cloudflare may set
__cf_bmfor bot-management purposes (strictly necessary) and processes anonymised analytics data. Cloudflare Privacy Policy. - Google — if you arrive via a Google Ads campaign and have consented to advertising cookies, Google's measurement cookies may be active. Google Ads cookie information.
- Microsoft Advertising — similarly, if you arrive via a Microsoft Advertising campaign and have consented, Microsoft may set measurement cookies. Microsoft Privacy Statement.
8. Do Not Track and Global Privacy Control
We honour the Global Privacy Control (GPC) signal. If your browser sends a GPC header, we treat it as a withdrawal of consent for analytics and advertising cookies, and only strictly necessary cookies will be set for your visit. We do not currently respond to the older "Do Not Track" (DNT) browser signal, as it lacks a consistent standard — but we treat GPC as the functional equivalent.
9. Changes to this policy
We may update this Cookie Policy from time to time as our practices or applicable law change. The "Last updated" date at the top of the page reflects the latest revision. We encourage you to check back periodically.
